FedEx Cup Update
I'm a little ashamed of myself, but the first thing I did Tuesday morning was take a look at the FedEx Cup standings. I'm surprised to admit that the playoff system, while it may have some flaws and loopholes, is pretty entertaining.
Look at the golf we were able to watch Sunday and Monday. It was two of the world's best (and a host of other great players) all trading birdies and eagles for a shot at a win. Eventual winner Phil Mickelson was fired up, runner-up Tiger Woods was hitting the ball great (too bad he couldn't make a putt) and there were still a couple of chances for a playoff. Great stuff.
You have to think that, as the field is narrowed to 70 players for next week's event at Cog Hill, the golf and competition will only get better. It'll be harder for those bubble players to stay alive and guys at the top of the leaderboard are running out of time to move up.
I'll be tuning in.
Notes... Northwest natives Ryan Moore and Jeff Quinney both survived and will play at the BMW Championship. Ranked 57th and 48th, respectively, both will need solid performances to have any chance of making it to the Tour Championship.
