Golf's New Era

Is it just me or does the PGA's 'New Era' look a lot like its previous years?

We had Vijay Singh come out of the gate in the year's first event and win (we've seen that before); then Paul Goydos gets his first win in over a decade at the Sony Open; now, at the Bob Hope, we've got another first time TOUR winner. It's the same unpredicatable results with a new points system.

Despite having a host of well known players take the lead throughout the tournament - guys like Justin Rose, Lucas Glover and Scott Verplank - it was little known Charley Hoffman who made up four strokes and snatched a playoff win over John Rollins. It's finishes like this one that makes the PGA TOUR interesting to watch, not the new FedEx Cup standings.

Will things change once all the big dogs commit to playing every week and FedEx Cup points get to be harder to come by? Maybe. Unfortunately, we won't know that for another six months.
